"Varoeldur" translates to "campfire" in Icelandic. It is the title of one of my favorite songs from my favorite Icelandic group Sigur Ros. I stumbled upon this song while editing this image. It was a perfect moment of synchronicity. I had not found a name for the image, I've planned to dedicate to Outward Bound.
Unlike many of the other images. I did not capture this portrait while attending a veterans retreat with Outward Bound.
This image was captured months later, in Tuscany. Yet, the feeling it evoked in my heart is the same feeling I had during our nightly campfires. I felt a soothing, peacefulness inside while being surrounded by trees, sitting next to the comfort of a warm campfire. We were in the middle of nowhere, just me and my military brothers and sisters bonding, telling our stories, and getting to know one another. We kayaked for 5 days through, The Delaware River. Learned about the founder Kurt Hanh. These are just some of my most memorable memories, during my Outward Bound Veteran Expedition.
